HandsOn Network is the leading business unit within the Points of Light Institute portfolio and is the activating arm. HandsOn Network inspires, equips, and mobilizes people to take action that changes the world. At the center of the network are our 370 affiliates serving 83% of the American population and 12 international communities. It is also a “network of networks” that includes our partnering nonprofits, government agencies, faith-based organizations, and companies seeking to engage in service.
MissionFish is a social enterprise of the Points of Light Institute. It enables people to sell or purchase products through eBay to benefit the nonprofit causes they care about. MissionFish has raised more than $125 million charitable dollars for over 15,000 nonprofits worldwide.
The Points of Light Institute also supports emerging new business units and entrepreneurial ventures through partnership, collaboration, and incubation that advance a variety of forms of civic engagement.
This Position Description identifies the major responsibilities of this job. It does not include all aspects of the position such as the potential duties assigned by supervisors and the requirement for flexibility in helping others for the organization’s overall benefit.

Summary of Duties: The Director of Training & Consulting is responsible for the development and delivery of training, resources, consulting and technical assistance services designed to build and improve employee volunteering within businesses of all sizes.
Duties & Responsibilities:
General Business Training Services
- Develops and delivers a menu of benefits & services for HandsOn Network’s business, CVC & Corporate Council membership
- Plans for an integrated and tiered slate of benefits and services for varying levels of corporate membership to ensure an appropriate return on investment for corporate partners as well as a consistently excellent corporate experience with the organization
- Participates on a cross functional team organized for the purpose of managing Corporate Council
- Development of regular communications platform for business, CVC & Corporate Council members, provide regular phone/email “check ins”
- Leadership of business member-only events to ensure ensuring integration with other corporate membership groups)
- Support of corporate section on website and leadership of corporate-focused programming at our national conference and other national events
- Working with other members of the HandsOn University team to to develop materials, research briefs and written FAQ documents that support our corporate members with EVP management, sector best practices and overall corporate community leadership.
- Evaluates and confirms learning objectives through ongoing needs assessments and research in the field of employee volunteer engagement
- Develops systems for gleaning and sharing effective corporate practices of with member corporations at every level and with the broader corporate sector
- Develops partnerships with other experts in the field of employee volunteer engagement
Customized Consulting and Training Services
- Identifies opportunities for fee-based training and consulting services
- Manages the delivery of fee-based consulting services to various constituencies
- Leads the develop of written proposals for corporate consulting projects
- In collaboration with the Corporate Partnerships Department, develops new business with identified corporate clients
- Cultivates and expands existing training and consulting relationships through frequent communication
- Works closely with companies to assess training and consulting needs and develops plans to address those needs
- Identifies appropriate leadership faculty members to fulfill training and consulting agreements
- Maintain strong communications with consultants assigned to client engagements
- Identify future project needs of clients and ensuring clients’ expectations are met
- Participate in appropriate professional and community organizations
Management & Administration
- Manages one direct report, Manager of Business Training Services
- Provide for timely collection of receivables by monitoring payment of client invoices
- Perform a variety of administrative tasks including travel preparations, gathering report data, and fulfilling client requests
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with demonstrated success in fundraising or sales.
- Excellent understanding of the volunteer sector, including corporate volunteering
- Proven ability to multi-task and deliver quality results under tight deadlines
- Excellent human relations, teambuilding, and organization skills
- Strong negotiation, communication, and third-party mediation skills
- Excellent customer service skills and a diplomatic style
- Excellent account management skills with the proven ability to develop and grow high-yield relationships.
- A high degree of personal initiative with the desire and ability to meet aggressive revenue goals.
- Experience in or with non-profit and corporate cultures
- Moderate travel will be required.
